Zen Project.

This is a school project I did in part of my Industrial Product Design degree. The aim was to make a cup by slip casting. During the process I overcome issues related to surface finishing, wall width and mould making to end up with 3 cups of the same design but different  widths.

The design revolves around a wavy concept that surrounds the cup in the lower part creating an edge both in the outside and inside of the cup.

The first step was to 3D print the cup design and to sand the outer part. This was done by applying Putty on the surface, letting it dry and sanding it with sanding paper. This process was repeated various times until a smooth enough surface was obtained.

Then the mould was prepared. 4 wood pieces were used and the 3D print was filled with clay and put upside down inside the mould space to be filled with plaster and create the mould.

Finally, the cups were baked in an oven and later sanded slightly to achieve the end result. 3 ceramic cups of the same design but with different widths thanks to the different waiting times when doing the slip casting.
