Adaptation is a big part of this exhibit's big idea: the way the snow leopard has evolved to live and hunt in one of the world's harshest climates is truly amazing. But the tone of the exhibit is mysterious and a bit contemplative. These big cats are good at blending in to their surroundings, and are often seen in glimpses. Himalayan folk art influences carving and paintings throughout the exhibit.
It's a rare opportunity to take advantage of a New York skyline view in an outdoor exhibit; usually we're trying to hide the fact that you're standing in one of the most densely developed cities in the world. But the skyscrapers around Central Park help make an astounding scale comparison.
