The different seasons of the year at magnificent Plansee in Tirol, Austria and why it’s worth visiting all year round.

In Spring the lake is amazingly clear. The snow on the surrounding mountains is melting and all the nature is waking up from hibernation. Great activities for Spring are walks around the lake, especially the south shore of the lake has an amazing trail right by the water. 

From the east side of the lake you will enjoy the most amazing sunsets. After a nice swim in the lake, which never gets super warm, enjoy a picnic and stay for the sunset. It's the perfect way to finish the day. 

Another great summer activity is hiking up to one of the viewpoints. There are two main viewpoints at the lake, the first one is on the east towards Schönjöchl mountain.  

The second one is on the west end of the lake on the way up to the Tauernspitze. Both viewpoints are best climbed during summer and autumn, you will get the best light during this time of the year. 

In Winter the lake transforms into a perfect Winter Wonderland scenery. The best way to see the winter landscape is from the western end of the lake. It's also the least dangerous part, as some of the areas are prone to avalanches because of the steep slopes of the mountains. 

The bridge over the connecting channel between Plansee and Heiterwanger See is another magnificent spot for enjoying the snow covered landscape.
