PAPER CUT LETTERS
I started the paper cut project—late last year (2021) partly as an exercise and partly as an exploration of letterforms. Origami and paper cut art has always fascinated me a lot, and this was the perfect time when I could mix these two disciplines. This mixing of two domains and exploring a new letter construction made me look at letters not as strokes but as fundamental shapes(circle/rectangles).
I worked with the Devanagari script as it has many form variations. I enjoyed the rigidity and restrictions as I only stuck to 2 basic shapes and the paper cut technique as a base of all constructions. I enjoyed the process, and I hope it can help you understand the Devanagari forms a little better now.

INSPIRATION
I got my motivation from the elegant art of origami and paper sculpting which has always fascinated me. The other thing that inspired me is that many of us had a massive collection of as a kid — Tazos, which helped me visualise and combine forms.

LETTER CONSTRUCTION
The letters are constructed using 2 basic shapes — a circle and a round-edged rectangle which are further subdivided into categories with different sizes and altered edges.

DEVANAGARI SCRIPT
Worked on the Devanagari script and created 13 swara (vowels) and 36 vyanjanas (consonants).
