New Orleans Caribbean Culinary Institute

For 3rd year comprehensive studio, students designed a culinary institute on an empty lot on OC Haley Blvd. in Central City. Unlike previous studio courses, this studio was integrated with other courses, including Tech Systems, Professional Concerns, and Digital Media. The beginning of the project consisted of site analysis in order to have a better understanding of the history and development of the OC Haley neighborhood.
The design of the site was meant to perform as a ‘mico-campus’, dividing the site into its separate programmatic uses, which included six teaching kitchens, classrooms, a restaurant, auditorium, café, etc. The site was unified by the structure and the façade consisted of fins. The building’s façade utilized different colored glass to signify the different programmatic components.
