Alexander Von Mehren - Aeropop

AEROPOP

Artwork for Alexander Von Mehren´s debut album.
Alexander Von Mehren is an artist and multi instrumentalist from Bergen, Norway. Even though his music brings to mind great acts like Stereolab and High Llamas, Alexander himself is more likely to reference retro futurism and library music from the sixties and seventies as his main sources of inspiration. As he´s spent the better part of this millenium on his debut album, Alexander can definately be called an perfectionist. So when he came to Anti & Grandpeople for the artwork, he expected nothing less than perfection from us.

Listening to the music we found a contradiction in how the music is strictly composed, and still feel alive and organic. It breaths. We wanted to portray this contradiction by combining organic shapes with more rigid shapes and see how they play together. We found alot of inspiration in the classic retro futuristic designs from Verner Panton and Eames and how they played with organic and rigid shapes.

For Alexander, the music transports the listener away. There´s an airy sense of height and distance which we wanted to communicate. The illustration of a floating path suggests a journey, with the elements travelling on it hinting to the rythmic element in the music.
