THE BEIJINGREN

Happy to join this collaborative project to tell my own story of Beijing. The cover illustration I did is about memory of Chongwen District, a former district in the south of Beijing where I was born and brought up.

Chongwen doesn't exist right now, it merged into the Dongcheng District when I was in junior high school. So in my artwork, I would like to draw not only things which still exists, like the Temple of Heaven, Qianmen Street, my middle school and other buildings... but also something which changed or disappeared with old Chongwen, like the Chongwen Vegetable market and hutong.

So this illustration is a mixture of memory and existence to express my missing of old Chongwen that carry most of my childhood memory.
