Brand Identity of the National Gallery of Armenia

NATIONAL GALLERY OF ARMENIA BRAND IDENTITY CONCEPT

The National Gallery of Armenia was founded in 1921 by the decision of the Soviet Armenian Government. It is located on Yerevan's Republic Square and is the largest art museum in Armenia. The NGA houses significant collections of Russian and Western European art, and the world's largest collection of Armenian art. The NGA currently houses around 26,000 works of art, many of which are permanently displayed in the museum's 56 galleries and halls.
The Gallery celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2021, that's why I created a new brand identity concept for the National Gallery.
The shapes of the logotype are geometrical and simple. The circle represents the viewer, and the squares represent artworks. In the squares there are Armenian letters of the abbreviation of the National Gallery of Armenia (Հայաստանի Ազգային Պատկերասրահ). Last but not least, the shapes that were created at the intersection of the letters and squares, are similar to those of the Republic Square of Armenia, where the Gallery is located.
The secondary element of the brand is based on the shapes of the logotype. The circles and squares create dynamic flow and an intertwined unity of the artworks and visitors, thereby creating the "picture" of the inner "life" of the gallery.
The creation process of the brand was based on principles of Swiss style and on grid system particularly.
