Hereditary is a 2018 American psychological horror film written and directed by Ari Aster, in his feature film directorial debut. It stars Toni Collette, Alex Wolff, Milly Shapiro, and Gabriel Byrne as a family haunted by a mysterious presence after the death of their secretive grandmother.
I believe theatrical posters are an art form of its own, that it has power to influence how moviegoers will perceive a film, and that is has physical value as an artwork. I also believe that they should be able to tell a story too. My design is a nod to crucial plots and events in the film. I want the design to go over the heads of people who will see the movie for the first time and for them to get that lightbulb moment after seeing the movie. As an artist, I live for those moments.
I personally found the movie stunning and so fascinatingly terrifying that it immediately landed on my favorites list. I jumped in as soon as Alt Posters PH — a collective space for Filipino graphic designers, illustrators, and layout artists, and their reimagination of the movie posters — released a prompt for us to reinterpret the movie poster.
