Goal By Goal
- A Live Brief from Sky Sports -

The Details
As part of Web & Digital Media 2a, I was given a live brief by Sky Sports to design a more engaging way of displaying football statistics on the web for the upcoming 2014 World Cup.
The Concept
During my research it became clear that the many different stats created a cluttered layout, requiring more effort from the user to find what they wanted. This gave me the idea to strip back the stats and give them a singular focus: the defining moments of a match - the goals.
From then, I was able to divide statistics into four categories for the website.

- the goal itself
- the player who scored
- the opposition goalkeeper
- the comment

The categories are supported by a report feature, which would allow users to create their own daily, weekly or bi-monthly report with only the stats they are interested in for the duration
of the cup.
The Result
I feel that the end result of this brief was a concept with potential for applications in other formats (i.e. phone apps or widgets) as well as other sports and sporting events. I was lucky enough to be selected from my class for an internship with Sky this coming easter as a result of my presentation. I’m really looking forward to spending time at their Leeds offices and learning more about web design.
