The inspiration of these art pieces are from the show Steven Universe. However, I added a bit of my own style into the background art, with the flat brushes and grain-y brush texture. The color scheme and theme is revolved around vanilla skies, pastel and skies. After doing my research and creating my own moodboard, it is time to draw them out as imagined.
Personally, background art was never my forte. However, after many trials and errors, I have improved drastically and also got many of my friends impressed as I wasn't always the best at background art. It's actually pretty fun, because I wasn't bound by lineart and everything is pretty free form.
My friends and lecturers were impressed by these pieces as they never really seen my illustrations. They were very happy with the first result, and decided to ask me to paint another one with the same art style but this time, with a different scenery.
I have created a different moodboard for the "night sky" piece, and it took me a few tries to get the colors right. Even though drawing background art is very new to me, it didn't stop me from the trial and error process.
After I was finish with this piece, I sent it to my lecturers and friends. Once again they said it's got no problems, and decided to add it in the website without me needing to change anything more.
All in all, I'm very happy with the results and reactions from my friends and lecturer as drawing backgrounds are something new for me to experiment and experience. Definitely will keep drawing them and improving on it.
