The northern part of Czechia is a typical post-industrial landscape scarred by open-pit mines. One particular mine in the city, for which I intended to attend a competition for visual identity, served as inspiration for the art you can see below—the Progression series.

The Progression images were meant to be the key visuals used in posters, social media, and other city propagation materials. The generative approach to creating an infinite number of different layered visuals symbolizes the city’s potential and shows all the likely future paths it can take. It also draws heavy visual inspiration from the city’s mine from the aerial view.

After first prototype, I have decided to drop out from the competition, and focus solely on the algorithm itself—the output of which is a series of 7.000 unique, algorithmically generated art pieces.

The algorithm works in three steps:
Initial curve generation.
Creating offset curves.
Applying style.
