REPEATING PATTERN
These designs were created while I was in Budapest at the MOME University in the summer semester 2020. It was assigned to create any black and white motif, which would be repeated indefinitely. As a technique, I opted for deformation by scanning. Because scanning was something I used on a daily basis to show my progress to my teachers over the digital presentation. All because of the first wave of Covid. As a theme I choose illustrations I found on old pottery – mugs and plates in a house I stayed in.
I drew these floral decors and scanned it. I even highlighted the imperfections of such technology. And so the distorted floral pattern was created. Other motifs were vector emoticons and glyphs of a single typeface. I wanted to use something so functional as a font for something so decorative as a pattern (for its obvious opposite polarities).
