Problem:
The problem that was established at the beginning of this project was to create a realistic cereal box model which accurately represents the target market being reached. For this cereal box, the specific target market is children, of any gender, who love to indulge in sweets and like to play basketball. The technical problem is understanding how to appeal to the target market through a design by comparing other leading brands in cereal. While the design problem is finding a way to appeal to children through vector art and colors that would grab their attention.
Solution:
A solution was found through extensive research of popular brands such as: Cocoa Puffs and Lucky Charms. By researching the competition, I was able to understand the color theory that was used to entice their target market. I chose the color palette, which is orange and blue, because I noticed that bright colors grab an audience attention more by witnessing the Lucky Charms brand of cereal; the red and green contrast each other which gives the brand a bold layout. The Cocoa Puffs cereal has a much more muted color palette, and I decided to take both aspects and combine them into the cereal box that was created for this project.
Results:
The critiques I received were based on my cereal texture as it was not a 3D textured cereal and that my trophies looked too realistic to be marshmallows. However, I also received comments that it was not a bad attempt for my first project.
