Fairytale Spin-off Character Design | Illustration
Project Details
In this assignment, I was tasked to design two characters (one human and one creature) based off of an old fairytale. I chose to base my characters after a darker retelling of Peter Pan. My two main characters are spun off from both Peter Pan himself and Tinkerbell. For this assignment, I had to create several character spreads, including turnarounds and rough color designs. Finally, I was tasked to create one or more "children's storybook or coloring book" illustrations to showcase my characters in a story-like setting.
Background story
In my version of the story, "Tink" is a fairy of death that collects souls of dying children. During this time period, there is a widespread plague that Peter and his twin brother, Jack, catch and are on their deathbeds. However, the two boys refuse to cross over to death and are now stuck in an out-of-body experience being chased by Tink through "Neverland", the place between life and death.
