IOT: The Good and The Bad

When researching Internet of Things, it was fascinating seeing all the advanced technology everyday objects have. This inspired the left side of the image: the positives of IOT.  Technology has given us smart watches, technology activated lighting, and access to directions at any moment. With this advanced technology, there are risks. These risks inspired the right side of the image. For the smart watch: it can detect your voice at any time; hackers can have access to you without you even knowing. Smart lighting can let someone know your patterns of when you are home and when you are gone. If the lighting is consistent, someone may be able to find an easy time to break into a home. Smart lighting also can help someone detect easy entrance points into a house. Lastly, there is maps. It may be obvious, but access to smart maps means a hacker can have one's location, know where they've been, where they frequent, and where they are at that very moment. It was important to capture both the positives and negatives of IOT in this image, and incorporate a 3D aspect as well. The broken tv screen was incorporated to further accentuate how technology is a broken world.
When brainstorming the idea for this project, divided positive and negative sides of an image seemed to be an effective way to get the idea of a "broken technology world" across. The person in the middle was also an important aspect to communicate how humans are ultimately the brains behind IOT.
