The key method of comparison revolved around five basic traits that can define any varietal's character, (body, sweetness, tannin, acidity and alcohol) devised by wine experts Madeline Puckette and Justin Hammack in Wine Folly: Magnum edition on a scale of 1-5. Once mastered, this information could lead to a broadened palette and even a discovery of new favourites.
