Javett Art Centre

Project Summary
This project focuses on the design of a wayfinding system for the Javett-UP Art Centre. A partnership between the Javett Foundation and UP, the Centre aims to engage academics, students and the public with the creativity and diversity of local and international art and artists. It is an inspirational space where exhibitions, events and performances enrich society.

Deliverables
- Style Guide (colour palette and its application as a navigation system, iconography)
- Wayfinding orientation/circulation map
- Regulatory icons
- Exterior identification signage (sculptural, 3D, site-specific identification sign)
- Interior identification & directional signage
- Information signage
- Presentation

Design Strategy
This wayfinding system is designed to be clearly visible but not intrusive. The inverted text on the dark background ensures that the signs are distinguishable from the environment while echoing the white walls of the art centre in the inverted type. The logotypes are inspired by the specific sites in which they are located and the simple vector style of the graphics is inspired by the open spaces and clean white walls of the Javett-UP Art Centre. The colours are inspired by the architecture and surroundings of the centre and saturated/exaggerated to create a energetic colour palette.
