Cigarette Daydreams
For this assignment I chose fashion photography. It took me a while to choose a theme for this assignment because I want to try everything and choosing just one is a difficult task. I chose fashion photography because I don’t think I have been very good at it and I wanted to try it out more. I chose to go with a grunge vibe to this photoshoot because its something I connect with through music and I have always liked the fashion of grunge
I wanted to combine fashion with street photography because the grunge aesthetic seems to work better out on the street rather than using a studio. The photos relate to the theme of fashion photography because I was aiming to capture their style and fashion of the grunge theme rather than something else.
This photo was focused on the shoes because the converse were a big part of the grunge look and the fishnet tights Brough the looks together.
I wanted to reject the glam and the highly stylized photos of fashion photography and give more of a “straight up”, “F U” vibe to fashion photography. This is also a take on 1990s photography when the grunge aesthetic started to become more popular. I think that mainstream fashion photography is good but it most definitely is not my vibe and going with a grunge aesthetic was the right thing to do for this assignment.
I loved the turn out of this shoot but I think if I could go back and do it again I would have chosen a day that was overcast.
