MDMFA Design Challenges

FULL SAIL UNIVERSITY
DESIGN CHALLENGES

The following were assignments for my MFA in Media Design at Full Sail University.

In this design challenge, we were tasked to choose font pairs and then create images using only the fonts and provided quotes. I wanted to simulate the shape of the earth with the quotes and have the event/holiday orbit the text.

The first image is the final revision and the second is the first submission that needed revised.

Using only images from royalty free stock websites, we were tasked to create images that evoked the feeling or theme of Earth Day. For this project I took some photos in my own backyard to use as well. After receiving feedback from peers and the instructor, I made the image clearer with less visual "noise" so the focus would be the fruit shaped Earth.

The first image is the final image and the second is the first draft that was revised.

This design challenge had us using the typographic hierarchy and visual imagery skills learned earlier in the course. I chose high contrasting colors to attract the viewer's eyes to the poster and created abstract shapes of the continents for an "Earth Day" event.

The first image is the final version with the full mockup. Below that was the first submission that was revised based on feedback.

This was an early design challenge to use Adobe Illustrator to recreate Alexander Gerard's design. The object of the challenge was to take particular care on the accuracy of pen tool to correctly duplicate Gerard's art. Having not used Illustrate very often in my career this was a welcome challenge. This image is the refined version. Below is the original that need improvement.

Refined image with cleaner lines and smoother curves.

For our Copywriting course, we had to create flyers, radio ads, and a video PSA for a fictitious pet rescue organization. I wanted to write a script where the viewer thought the pet owner was doing the voice over, but at some point, viewers realize the pets were talking about their owners. This misdirect would make the spot memorable and encourage repeat views to see the spot again knowing the pets were the narrators.

This was an optional design challenge where we were tasked with creating a branded short video using only motion images, text, and music. This was for a gaming business my brother and I began to plan as a new business venture.
