Loosely based around discovery, the collection Wandering Between Two Points reflects on journeys of discovering cities. In this zine, I attempted to document all the charm around the city of Ílhavo that goes unnoticed by most people.
About the city
Ílhavo is a coastal city located in central Portugal on the flatlands surrounding the lower reaches of the Vouga river. Ílhavo is known as the Portuguese Capital of Cod and that tells a fundamental part of the social and economic history of the region. The history tells us that most of the cod fishing vessels officers and the majority of Portuguese cod fishermen were Ílhavo born and bred and went on epic voyages to the North-Atlantic seas.
For this project I didn't have a specific subject in mind to photograph and I think this is what made me fall in love with it. Everything consisted of exploring the city, doing different walking trails, visiting some farms, cycling, or even going to cafes. The joy of noticing something beautiful in an environment that's so simple, like walking in your neighbourhood and seeing the light projected on some leaves, or the way people are looking out the coffee window on a cold morning. More and more people tend to ignore these little things in life, they are always running, or glued to screens. With this project, I hope to make people realize that beauty is not just in touristic places. You can find it in any part of your life, even on your daily commute.
