Introduction:
Society of Scent is NYC based collective of disruptive thinkers and shakers with a solid expertise in Scent
and Fragrance. Team and network is composed of Perfumers, Brand Builders and Creative visionaries.
Scope of work:
My part was to show the mood and spirit of these perfumes through visual narration. We talked about showing modern spirit in visuals. It was challenging work. My client wished the outcome would be artistic but would also introduce the mood of scent and give some space to interpretation. I made it a little raw and abstractive.
SCENT 1 - ASHEN ORRIS
"Magnifying the beauty of Iris: Orris root concrete and absolute extractions are among the most precious ingredients in perfumery. Not only are they prohibitively costly, but they represent the ultimate in classic luxury with their subtle powdery preciosity. The challenge is to make something new and modern with it. Capitalizing on the cocoon-like enveloping personality of Orris, and even prolonging it with more creamy Sandalwood, this showcases a dry mineral dusty quality similar to the texture of clay or wood ashes. Sage, Galbanum and Coriander complete the interior decor of this very sensual capsule that wraps around you like the most comfortable Cashmere."

SCENT 2 - ASPHALT NOIRE
"Inspired by the addictive vapors of asphalt: love it or hate it, everyone recognizes the smell of tar! Of course, it is a challenge to build a wearable and pleasant scent from such a raw ingredient. Jean Claude Delville is just the nose to elevate this wild inspiration. In perfumery, we use a Birch tar essential oil, obtained from the bark of the tree. This is the central pillar here, a deep smoky and leathery presence, enhanced by the equally characteristic warmth of Cardamom. As every beast need its beauty, Narcissus Absolute comes to the rescue with its luxurious floral glow. The dive into darker matters continues with earthy tones of Patchouli and Cypriol- also called Nagarmogtha- and betwitching orientalist fumes of Amber and Tonka Bean."

SCENT 3 - CALLA LICIOUS
"Constructed by perfumer Nathalie Feisthauer as a slow unveiling of seductive layers: the first whiff is joyful, fresh and somewhat innocent, as the natural Pear-ester combined with the white Lilies are only very slightly flirtatious. Comes Jasmin Absolute – a quintessential natural extraction in the world of precious blends, and a definitive symbol of beauty. It plays a central role but in a light, almost non-flowery way, and is acutely chorded with sassy notes of Pink Pepper berries. Slowly but surely, more and more skin is being revealed as warm tones of Vanilla, Amber and expensive Musks combine in a lucious and delicious sillage."

SCENT 4 - ROSE RAGE
"A dramatic, almost operatic joust between the Red and the Black: The gorgeous and colorful Queen of flowers, her majesty the Damascena Rose, is in dispute with the solemn and spiritual Frankincense, resulting in a surprising display of harmony through contrasts. The rose befriends the playful natural Raspberry ketone, while the incense finds strengths in dark and powerful allies like Cumin and Patchouli. The secret of this blend is the unusual amount of natural rose that we use: there is an equivalent of 150 rose blossoms in each bottle of 15ml of Rose Rage (*). Also, we wanted to create a rose fragrance that both men and women could wear: the opulent femininity of the Turkish rose is somehow neutralized by the virile spicy,woody and balsamic backbone of this enchanting blend."

(*) It takes an extravagant 4 tons of rose petals to make one kilogram of oil. That is 600,000 blossoms that need to be harvested by hand, early in the morning before they release their aroma in the air…

SCENT 5 - SLVR Lightning
"Crisp and fluid holographic sensuality: there is a definite modernism about this metallic, pure and a bit abstract construction, and yet it is never cold or simply mineral, but instead feels alive and textured like a luxurious fresh white cotton fabric. Built around Aldehydes (a family of sharp and effervescent organic compounds), it also evokes the purity of water, the airiness of high skies and seems loaded with electric energy. It is made carnal by the addition of spices, smoked tea leaves and blackcurrant, and luxurious with noble base notes like Ambrette, Orris and Vetiver. Overall it carries an aura of casual elegance with a refreshing sparkling initial impression."
