My Daughter Keeps My Hammer

Here are some images that illustrate how I made the final poster art for the play "My Daughter Keeps Our Hammer."
Above is the final poster artwork, complete with title and dates added. The title and other text was made deliberately blurry to give it a more worn, weathered look.
This was the original photograph I took. Here it is just as it came from the camera, completely untouched. The two women (Layla Khoshnoudi and Katherine Folk-Sullivan) are the lead performers in the play.
I altered the color saturation and enhanced the shading and contrast to give the image a darker, more foreboding tone. I also extended the background vertically. The empty space above their heads creates a feeling of isolation for these characters. It also leaves room for the play's title and other text.
The director of the play (Danya Taymor) and I both prefered Layla's expression in this other photograph I took, but the image didn't lend itself well to extending the background vertically, which is what I wanted for the poster.
Instead, I replaced Layla's face in the original photo with this one, leaving the rest of the picture intact.
The final image ready for the title and all other text.
This is the image used for online marketing where a horizontal image was required.
