Surrealist Photoshop Self Portrait

Surrealist Photoshop Self Portrait
By: Brianna Wodell
In this project, you will learn the basics of photo manipulation as well as further exploring composition, elements, and principles of design. You will create a montage of images that communicates a message, opinion, thought, feeling, or narrative. The self-portrait project will be your first experience using Photoshop to create fine art. You will use a digital camera or phone to shoot a picture of yourself specifically for this project. You will also collect additional objects, photos, or images from the web. You will then fade those items in and out of the photo using a variety of Photoshop tools and techniques.
The Idea
For my original idea I wanted to combine an aspect of photography into my piece because photography helps me express how I see the world. My first sketches depict a mix of a self portrait done in the studio and a self portrait drawing. However, my final idea I wanted to pursue resulted in a self portrait in a mirror and surrounded by a collage of photos I've taken.
The Process
I began by editing my photos I wanted to use and putting them through a self made preset and then designing a collage for my background.
The final collage below is what I used in my background.
Then I used these two portraits for my main subject. The one on the left I photoshopped into the left of the one of the right to act as a reflection.
