Our Tschichold project was mostly about hierarchy and how to bring attention to a book. The content of these book covers are all the same, the only differences are how they are designed to try and catch the attention of readers. We were allowed to use 2 Pantone colors for each cover proposal. The book is 7x1x10. Some WIP screenshots and other proposals can be found in my drop mark!
This is my first proposal. I wanted it to look simple and balanced. I tried to achieve the balanced look by creating a bold, heavy circle on the front of the book, with larger and heavier words. On the backside I made the words smaller but there's more of them, with a thinner, but larger in radius circle.
This second proposal is very simple but eye catching. If a reader was to pick it up, they would immediately notice that all of the information is not displayed on the front. They would hopefully become curious and have to turn it over and investigate more.
This is my third and final cover proposal. I chose this one as my final because I really enjoy the J bleeding off of the cover and the fact that it's so big I didn't really need to add the rest of Jan's first name. I also liked the de stijl and bauhaus kind of style from the lines in the back.
A closer look at the detail on the front cover. The J bleeds off the page and doesn't need Jan's whole first name.
