N26 — Pearls

Early in 2021, N26 reached out to refresh their visual identity and get some new visuals to share on social media as a way to promote and advertise their lineup of N26 Metal cards. Each of the four animations should feel beautiful on its own, but also part of the same world. We worked closely with N26’s creative team to deliver some new and fun visuals.

The following are just a part of the renders we made along the way. With an overall production timeline of nearly two months, this allowed us to dedicate a great portion of the time to Research and Development, testing for different moods, colors, tones and pace. Each card had its own unique theme and keyword. The overall context focused on underwater feel & pearlescent look. The three card environments also ranged from the more concrete Charcoal to a more abstracted Grey/Slate card, and so did the elements used for each animation.

With Charcoal, the underwater theme is very explicit, and the dark environment is used to highlight the intense color – or lack thereof – of the card. It also allows for a sharp reveal of the card showcasing the metal features of it.

Rose Quartz is all about the color and growth. Initially, we experimented with liquid that started from or took the form of the card, but there was something very appealing about the card being held by this abstract growing structure, almost as if it were emerging from it.

For Slate, our key word was Security. This begun with some soft-body tests, compositions where the card was safely guarded and structures that evoked visuals of clams and corals. When it came to establishing a connective thread for the three cards, we dialed back Slate to live in a simple but more beautiful environment, reminiscent of a cross product of a corals, pearls, and a blooming flower.

For the Group asset we had a lot of fun. We tried a wide variety of looks, ranging from a more simple and sophisticated nighttime environment, to the more inception-like worlds that meet in the horizon, where the cards take the center stage no matter how the image is rotated. For the final product, we incorporated a little bit of each card’s world into the full picture.

Overall, this project was incredibly fun and we once again thank N26 for letting us be a part of it. We also hope you enjoy seeing it as much as we enjoyed making it. Thank you!
