In the story the main protagonist is left with a hole in his heart following his friend's disappearance. My illustration is centred around this metaphorically hole from which the character's world expands, filled with details from the book.
In the book there is also the creation of a fake earth. The cover illustration hints at this with the boy looking out at the real moon, and the astronaut under the manufactured planet.
