Hard Surface Modelling Assessment 2

Assessment 2 Enviroment Procedural Assets Suite
As the continuation to assessment 1, I will be making 4 procedural assets that fit the scene and mood board from Assessment 1. These assets will be a Torii gate, Stones/Rocks, Toro Lantern, and Cherry Blossom tree. These assets fit the Japanese mini scene.

These main aspects of the moodbaord are what are being recreated. They will be made procedurally to change shape and size in any way. The four assets will become apart of the main enviroment suite when finished.

Rock creation
Creating a procedural rock is an essential part of the envirmental suite. This will help create different types of rocks as well as stepping stones or boulders.
1. First started with an inital shaped, sahpping it on the y axis
2. Then adding a mountain node with a subdivision
3. Adding a attribute noise creates more variation in shape
4. Then creating parameters to control its shape and randomization amount

Torri Gate
The Torri gate is one of the main aspects that are within the Japanese scene. There is some prcedural aspects to the gate like height and size, but since Torri gates are generally the same it doesn't need to change too much procedurally.
1. First started with some experimentation and blocking to make sure I got mirroring right
2. Using mirroring techniques and edit tools, I created the top part of the gate
3. Then I created some legs and used a mirroring node again
4. Created the second connector with details on where the pole connects, again using mirror tool to make it easier
5. Then created the front plaque for text or picture.
6. Created general parameters for size and height for aspects such as poles and foundation

Cherry Tree Creation
The Cherry Blossom asset of course was to be an asset created after the Japanese Cherry Blossom tree. The main aspects were creating the flowers but also reducing processing load of the asset, in which the asset branches needed to be cut down.
1. Using Houdini Tree generation I was able to use the tree trunk generator, chaning this to fit the similar shape of a cherry blossom tree
2. Using the tree branch generator I experimented with what most of the settings produce and worked towards creating the necessary branch shape needed
3. Then I experimented with the copy to points to see where most of the copying would go
4. I refined the points placement using a bounding region
5. I then created the stem and leaves for the cherry blossom flower
6. Using soft modelling I created the flower petal shape
7. The final flower and stem models was done and could be added to the tree
8. I then added the final flower model to the copy to points of the tree and got the model right

Japanese Toro Style Lantern
The Toro Lantern is a simple asset, yet it needed to show styles of the main Toro lantern theme. Even with its simplicity its main purpose within the scene would be to generate light.
1. Creating the inital base in which the model is created from
2. The First extrusions are creates, different extrusions and different insets create depth detail.
3. Creating a large extrusion for placement of the light, so it acts as a lantern
4. Creating the top part of the lantern is actually the most similar aspect to a generic toro lantern.
5. Creating insets on the main section in which 'light' will be emitted from.
6. Creating the final parameters to control extrusion and inset lengths.
