At the end of the 19th century, the municipality experienced an economic boom due to munitions production. In 1891, with 36 objects, the k.u.k. Pulverfabrik Blumau, the first state-owned ammunition factory in Austria, was established.
In April 1945, the ammunition factory was confiscated by the Soviet occupying forces and the entire inventory was dismantled and transported away. Since then, numerous house ruins and remaining foundations bear witness to the former extent of the village.
