Stairway to Bombay- Design Studio

Stairway To Bombay is a structure located in South Mumbai, commonly known as Bombay. An attempt to rejuvenate The Watson, India's oldest surviving cast iron building now in a dilapidated condition. Keeping the cast iron skeleton of the structure intact, the design has been made by taking elements from the area and also acknowledge the heritage of the structure, Thus setting a post-industrial ruin theme for the design.
The 3 base element in the structure as seen above help blend the structure into the surroundings by incorporating aspects from it.
Activity mapping through sections show the kinetic presence of street vendors which define character of this place. Providing appropriate programs in the structure for the same in order to amplify this feature and transforming the structure into an extension to the public arcade below.
Assuming the purple circulation line to be the paths of someone who hasn't seen the structure before and is new the city, i.e. A tourist who will be inclined to visit the exhibition areas and then the FnB's more . The green circulation lines show the possible paths of a local who is well aware of the place and is visiting for the retail shops, the food counters, or just as a hangout space.
This helps clarify the circulation within the structure and what type of audience gets attracted to what part of the structure. It also helps justify the zoning within the structure based on the behavioral patterns of people.
