GRAPHIC DAYS® DESIGN LAB - VIA DURANDI
Redevelopment project of the pedestrian area through urban art interventions.
In the district of San Donato in Turin, the urban art project has been completed in the pedestrian section of Via Jacopo Durandi in front of the Piazza dei Mestieri complex and in the perimeter of the pavement around the Pacinotti institute.
The intervention consisted in decorating the pavement with geometric patterns, shapes and colours derived from the study and modern reinterpretation of the architecture of the surrounding buildings, an action that favoured a new perception of the space by its users.
Specifically, the compositional elements are taken from the Pacinotti Comprehensive Institute and the former Fiorio tanneries, designed in the 'Novecento' style of neo-Romanesque inspiration by Pietro Fenoglio.
The color palette identified is also freely inspired by the colors of the plaster, bricks and railings that characterize the façade of the former Fiorio tanneries.
Thanks to the intervention in Via Durandi, a large pedestrian area has been returned to the citizens, offering school students a safe place to carry out physical, cultural and leisure activities, and encouraging encounters and exchanges between different groups of citizens.
Social design thus becomes the tool for enjoying social innovation projects through art and changing the perception of public spaces.
The project was developed in collaboration with the City of Turin, the Department of Mobility and Infrastructures of the City of Turin, the Piazza dei Mestieri Foundation and the Pacinotti school.
