IGUALDADE MENSTRUAL
(Menstrual Equality)

The Menstrual Equality Collective promotes education and access to menstrual hygiene products to people in vulnerable situations in order to build a fairer society. I had the pleasure of transforming the causes promoted by the collective into images, these illustrations are being used in product applications to raise funds for the project.

Illustrations created for the Menstrual Equality Collective project @igualdademenstrual.

title. Menstrual Equality
date. 2021
The image is a representation of several bleeding hands that together form a menstrual collector and symbolize the support and unity of women in their menstrual cycles"
title. Let Me Bleed in Peace
date. 2021
The image represents a dove, universal symbol of peace and hope, carrying a mestrual cup on its foot and on its chest a bleeding wound, alluding to the vulva. The bird symbolizes sacrifice and motherhood, and the accompanying phrase illustrates women's demand for the right to menstruate with dignity.
title. Bleed in Motion
date. 2021
The female figure is represented with a fist and 13 petals on her belly, which symbolize the 13 shots fired at Marielle Franco – a murdered councilwoman who fought for the rights of the LGBTIQA+ population, black women and favelados, against racism, homophobia and police violence .
The phrase “Sangro em Movimento” is an excerpt from the song "Rompeu o Couro", sung by Marcelo D2.
title. Bleed, therefore I resist
date. 2021
Clenched fists bleed as they carry a menstrual cup. They symbolize resistance, solidarity and support, and express the challenge of being a woman in society. The phrase “Bleed, therefore I resist” demonstrates the strength needed to confront female oppression, and is associated with René Descartes and his thesis that our existence is the only truth that cannot be questioned: our existence – thought summarized in famous phrase “I think, therefore I am”. Having the conviction of our existence would be the only thing we cannot doubt. Similarly, I wanted to associate the act of female Bleeding with resistance as inherent in women.
title. Egalitarian Cycle
date. 2021
The phases of the moon represent the cyclicity of nature which, like our menstrual cycle, moves from contracting and expanding energies. The fingers bleed and touch each other to form a uterus, and the phrase demands menstrual equality for all menstruating people.
