My final project for the MA in Graphic Branding & Identity was a study about media bias, and how optimism or pessimism as mental attitudes can be promoted through media channels. The output for this final project was an ironic publication, Optimista (‘optimistic’ in Portuguese) that covered negative news about Portugal (printed in black) with a translucent layer of good news printed in blue — a reference to the infamous “blue pencil” used by the censorship committee during the Portuguese dictatorship (1933-1974).
