Movie Mosaics

Movie mosaics is an offshoot of an interesting color theory project I did in my sophomore year, which later went on to be published at International Typography Day, 2014.

You can check out the detailed research oriented approach here
In this data visualization project, full length hollywood movies are ripped off into thousands of static frames. Then, the dominant colors from each frame are extracted. A python script was written which used fuzzy logic algorithms to calculate the mean color.

    1. Frame extraction (~4000 frames per movie)
    2. Color extraction (3 colors per frame. ~12000 colors)
    3. Data visualization

Let me know how you felt about this project. If you want to suggest a movie to create a mosaic of, please let me know. Moreover, all the data I've collected, including the unedited color mosaics can be found here.

If you are interested in taking forward the project or developing it in a better way, please do so. Also, if you require any help or assistance from my side, let me know. I would love to help you.
