Starship Children's Hospital - Wall of Smiles

Weigh Room Mural

Starship Children's Hospital in Auckland sees nearly 45,000 kids every year. In order to make the hospital a little more fun for all these kids, Starship has partnered with Mercury Energy and Chemistry Interaction to bring to life the Wall of Smiles project.

Eight design students from AUT University were asked to liven up three rooms in the hospital, inspired by children's answers to three questions. Myself, and Andrea Johnston worked together to create murals for the Weigh Room, where every child goes to get weighed and meaured. For this mural, kids were asked 'If you could invent one thing, what would it be?' Our aim was to create a mural inspired by their answers, which centred around flying animals and time machines.

The characters you see here were drawn by me, but the whole mural is a collaboration between myself and Andrea.

Enjoy!
