Samantha Bernardo - Welcome

This poster helped me not only to advertise the annual Haunted House that my sorority puts on but it helped me to use different design elements and test my true advertising skills. I tried to keep the colors neutral as to not completely black out the rest of the poster. There is a certain element of dark that I needed to keep out so the poster would be legible to all the people reading it after it was posted around campus. The house is the darkest element on the page except for some of the text and I feel that choosing to do so was a good balance between lights and darks; it helped convey the Halloween spirit but still left you questioning.
This assignment was a way for me to take my design talents and see what I can really do with them. This free assignment was a representation of what my tattoo on my foot currently is but what I would do to change it if I could. Because of the spot it’s in I could never have put something this big but with the use of this assignment it helped me dream a little of what could have been. I kept with all the same colors I already have incorporated into my tattoo with the addition of the infinity symbol and the word “believe.” I was originally going to get the word “believe” written with the tattoo but I decided against it because I wasn’t positive if I could live with it and now I see that I really would have enjoyed it there.
I decided to make this type of monogram logo because I am a huge fan of southern sororities and they way they carry themselves and do things. Seeing as how monograms are a large part of their lives and what they wear I decided to create one of my own. I went with the black letters because that was the classiest option in my mind and would be easiest for print on most colors. The pink background and outline can be altered depending on the color stationary that the monogram is being placed on but pink just so happens to be my favorite color so that is the main reason I chose that. I then had to overlap and move the letters so they would look as if they were one cohesive unit, which is the main point of a monogram. I thought that it would be best for me to go with the classic monogram style which meant putting my last initial in the middle then my first on the left and middle initial on the right where they come together. The last initial though is the most important, that’s why it’s in the center, larger than the rest, and bolder
I really enjoy clean lines and clean white space, so I wanted to reflect that in my stationary suite. I felt that white space is professional and that’s what I wanted to convey seeing as I could possibly use this stationary later in life. The key for me was keeping the same symmetry throughout all the designs, and I feel that I have done so. I wanted everything to look uniform and as if they were all created from the same design element. I also enjoy that there were so many different options of stationary objects that I was able to make, these would all be extremely helpful to any business professional needing their own personal stationary.
I first decided I wanted to do icons for the Delta Phi Epsilon website because I am extremely knowledgeable on the subject itself and besides school that is the biggest part of my life as of right now. The first icon with the Greek letters on it I decided to design for the homepage because they were simple to draw with the straight-line tool and what better way to say to go home than by having the letters on the icon your clicking. The second icon I chose to do was the chapters’ icon. This has a large picture of the American flag on it because we are only a United States based sorority so I thought that the flag would be most fitting to describe that. The third icon I chose to add to my list was the donate icon. As a sorority we are very much based on donations to our 3 philanthropies and this gives current sisters, alumni, as well as anyone else passionate about the organizations an option to donate to the cause and what better way to display that then a simple money symbol. Fourth and finally I chose to make a founders icon, which has 5 lovely dimes, displayed on it. These dimes are a representation of our 5 founders who we call the 5 dimes. Seeing as I am not as artistically inclined as I would like to be I knew I wouldn’t be able to draw their actual faces so anyone who is involved with the sorority itself will understand the correlation. My color palate was chosen solely because our colors are royal purple and pure gold so I made those colors prominent throughout as well as the large text on each icon so even if you knew nothing about the site before clicking on it you would still be able to navigate without trouble.
This CD project was absolutely my favorite; it gave me the opportunity to be truly creative in a way that I never have been before. This is my favorite band and to be able to make a greatest hits album for them was a true honor. I started off with the CD design, which has the name of the band simply on it. Yet I took the design element of the name of the band to a different level and used Photoshop to help me create a different look for each word. To represent a greatest hits album I took a different album cover of theirs and made that the fill color of each word in the bands name. I felt this is what brought the entire thing together for me, especially having those same album covers represented inside the tray card booklet. The outside of the booklet really catches my eye with the use of the script font because on all their design media that they use for t-shirts and posters they use a similar script so I tried to convey that as much as possible. What I also tried to do was stay with their color scheme, they use a lot of blacks and whites in their design elements and I tried to stick with that same color palate
Project Description: Create an informational website about our sorority. Make sure the following thing are included: a home page, an about page, a philanthropies page, a chapters page, and a contact page

Project Goals: to give prospective members a place to go to find out more information about the sisterhood and what it has to not only offer you but the rest of society as well once you are a member.

Target Audience: mainly this will be an audience based for college students looking to get involved but this can also be a place for sisters as well to show off what their sisterhood has done

Content & Information
Text:
Graphics: please use a photo of the five dimes on the about page as well as a photo of the US & Canada on the chapters page
Multimedia: please use the purple, gold, and white color scheme that the sisterhood already recognizes as our own.

Tone/Personality
What kind of feelings do we want someone to have?: We want someone to feel hopeful and happy when looking at our page, knowing that someday she might one day be able to call herself a delta phi epsilon is so important to us and we would really want that reflected in this site.

Competition
Who or what are we up against?: we do not have any other real website competition other than rival sororities at differing schools. We want the girls to go out and find us on their own, not be told bad rumors before even meeting our girls or finding out what we’re really about and that’s sisterhood
I chose to do this postcard because at the time this band was touring and trying to make sure their name was out to the public. With this being one of my favorite bands I wanted to make sure that I took the time to recognize them for the amazing talents that they are. With the photos I wanted to make a statement with just one large photo on the front, with the clear colors and large headline it shows that this piece of media has only one single purpose.
This is an example of a brochure I made in a previous design class. This was for a medical health institution and I feel that the layout I choose looks as if it belongs in that type of facility. I feel that this is a good representation of the institution that it was created for, the soft tones and colors works very well and are easy on the eyes
This is an example of a newspaper that I created shortly after Hurricane Sandy hit the shores of New Jersey and changed our lives forever. I tried to follow the layout of the Asbury Park Press closely enough to really resemble the famous newspaper itself.
