WORK-LIVE UNIT
A shophouse, designed for an artist.
This project proposes a minimalistic and contemporary approach of the traditional shophouse typology. The front part of the house is being retained to preserve the architectural heritage elements, while a new three-storey structure is added to the back half to accommodate the user's needs. The open-air courtyard links the old footprint of the shophouse to its new rear addition. Besides, the continuity of space is presented through a series of stairs that loop through the shophouse, which zigzag back and forth through the house to connect the two existing floors with the three-storey extension.
