Maggie L. Walker
Maggie Lena Walker was an African-American businesswoman and teacher. Walker was the one of the first African-American woman to charter a bank and serve as its president in the United States. As a leader, Walker achieved successes with the vision to make tangible improvements in the way of life for African Americans. Disabled by paralysis and a wheelchair user later in life, Walker also became an example for people with disabilities.
Approached by owner of the Consolidated Bank and Trust to render a portrait of the banks founder for their lobby and the anniversary of the banks founding.
Note: Portrait is 18″x24″ inches, color pencil on paper. I had to keep the portrait black and white, but I wanted a more aged feel, so I chose to use French grey of varying degrees. There is over 85 hours in this piece.
