The customs and rituals associated with marriage In Sri Lankan culture are changing through the modification of the ‘old’ and the adoption of the ‘new’. The urban middle-class Sinhalese society, there appears to be a significant shift towards what is considered to be more western conceptions of marriages. The concept of ‘Love marriages’ are increasing compares to a traditional ‘arranged marriages’. The argument is ‘Everyone has the right to choose who they want to marry’. However with the rise of modern platforms such as ‘Marriage classified’, old traditions and the art of pre-marriage traditions are being forgotten.

‘Marriage on a paper’ is a publication is an Introduction to the pate and present ‘Arranged marriage’ culture in Sri Lanka. The very aim of this publication is to give a brief idea about the old traditions and stories about arranged marriages from Sinhala Middle-class society in Sri Lanka, through its layout, illustrations, photographs and the use of typefaces. The intended audience would be primarily readers who are interested in different cultural rituals but also to introduce the slowly fading tradition of pre- Marriage traditions of Sinhala community in Sri Lanka. The idea of selecting this specific meta topic ‘Arranged marriage’ is inspired by my own personal experience in modern arrange marriage search. The emotional burden of these marriage search hardly mentioned in our local community. My primary research for ‘Marriage on a paper’ is mainly based on the internet, while secondary research is based on personal family stories and personal experience. The structure of the content is to briefly explain how marriage culture in Sri Lankan Sinhalese society got evolved throughout the time of modernism and economical changes. At the beginning of the publication, I have mentioned brie y what marriage is in our society.
