I began my design process by looking at other emojis and focused on a good range of emotion. I ended up writing out a list of emotions that I wanted to represent in these emojis before I started to sketch out ideas. I workshopped the face shape of the base emoji before drawing the different expressions. After that, I began designing them in Illustrator.
These emojis are of the Baldwin Wallace University yellow jacket mascot, Stinger. They are designed for informal communication between prospective and current students and the university. The emojis use the same color palette as the Baldwin Wallace identity system.
Since these emojis are used to communicate between university employees and students, they need to cover a wide range of emotions and situations. Many of these emotions are the same that can be found in the normal emoji keyboard; such as happiness, excitement, stress, and anger. There are a few that are made for Baldwin Wallace or university specific situations; such as, graduation, summer and winter break, and homecoming.
