In my master’s thesis “Hybrid New World” I seek to critically analyze the term hybridism or, more specifically, to see how the modern technological engineering substantiates hybridism in the broadest sense. The starting point for thinking about this topic is the dystopian novel Brave New World by Aldous Huxley. My idea is materialized by creating and drawing new hybrid beings made in a technological way. Another starting point is the Neolithic “Two-headed statuette” found on the archeological site of Gomolava in Hrtkovci, the village I grew up in. The drawings in my master’s thesis are set in an imaginary future world located on Gomolava, assuming that the ideas of neo-evolutionism came into being by creating artificial supernatural beings.
The “Two-headed statuette” was made around 4700 BC and it is one of the oldest hybrid statuettes in the whole world. The imagined time determinant of the hybrid new world in this thesis is the year 2300 and it represents a certain circle of 7000 years of evolution. The drawings follow the story from the “Two-headed statuette” across other hybrid beings ending with the one new hybrid being carrying the elements of this statuette and representing “the end of the evolution”.
The purpose of this thesis is to ask a series of questions through the drawings, as well as through its textual part: does the happiness lie there where every aspect of the life is calculated and deprived of disturbances, or does the beauty lie in the life itself, the life with all its unpredictable aspects? Do we achieve this ideal of happiness by creating a hybrid new world made by technological engineering or is it actually pure apathy? Are man and animals weak, outdated forms of life or do they have their value and beauty? Is it good or bad to play with the biological and kinetic engineering? What does one get and what does one lose in this process? Is this a possibility or a warning, or rather, is this the beginning or the end of the civilization?
Should we think more deeply, all these questions can be reduced to two eternal philosophical questions: what is the man and what is happiness?

Gomolava
Gomolava is prehistoric archeological locality which is situated near Hrtkovci, not far away from Ruma, on the left shore of Sava river. It was settled during six millenniums and is one of the most famous localities in Europe. The multistory archeological find is the settlement where are noticed the horizons of settlements in late Vinča period, eneolithic, early bronze period and iron period. The first excavations were in 1904., and from 1953., there are systematical researches which, with some pauses, last till today. The first settlement was found during the early Neolithic period, and it consisted of big houses with rectangular base, and it was built of wood and clay. The settlement was destroyed in fire, and on it’s remains the new settlers of Spot-Lađevac culture, made their houses and after them the people of Baden, Kostolac and Vučedol culture. In the bronze period the tribe from the east, lived in modest huts. The dominant horizons are from early iron period. There were found the houses made of thatched hut and mortar with a lot of ceramic stoves and holes rich with autochthonous material and ital import. In the foothill of Gomolave is big Roman necropolis. From XII to XV century there was the village necropolis and the church with the graveyard.
