Goethe Institut - Graphic Travelogues Culinary
In 2020, I had the unique opportunity to work on the Graphic Travelogues culinary project for the Goethe Institut. This project combined the three things I most enjoy in the world - Travel, Food and Art.
WeBee Social, the digital marketing team of Goethe Institut, reached out to me to build a series of videos showcasing a chef and an illustrator working together to create artworks and a delicious meal while traveling their local areas and sharing their knowledge about the culture and the locations they visit and then putting up the illustrations the artists make on the Goethe Institut's portal.
I feel that telling such a story comes out best when the conversations are pure, and organic. Hence the challenge was to build a script that would be loose enough so that the teams in each location can share their view as freely as possible while keeping it tight enough so that the films appear to be part of a series. To do this, I employed the help of Nipun Sood at Word dogs at the scripting stage.
The end product was a set of footage that was truly some of the hardest to cut, as it all seemed too rich to edit out and an experience that I learned a lot from. So the teams collectively decided to divide each location into 2 videos. A shopping section and a cooking section with rich conversations and playful fun in each.
I recommend that you watch these videos as each one is a portal through which you get to visit locations and experience a culture through the unique lens of artistic individuals that are local to the region!
