What is the creature that walks on four legs in the morning, two legs at noon and three in the evening?” – the Sphinx to Oedipus.

In the tale of Oedipus Rex, a sphinx asks the hero Oedipus to solve the riddle to enter the city of Thebes to which he answers “human”. This results to the death of the sphinx. In Greek mythology, the sphinx is depicted with a woman’s head, a lion’s body, and bird’s wings.
