Power steering oil: when to change?

Power steering oil: when to change?
Electro-hydraulic, electric and hydraulic steering are much more comfortable when driving. Those who use it sometimes, do not want to go back to driving with manual steering, which requires a real weight training from the driver, especially to make goals. See more at power steering fluid types

However, many vehicle owners still do not know when to change their car's power steering oil . Therefore, it is noteworthy that the power steering oil needs to be changed in the following situations:

* In cars that traveled from 30,000 km to 50,000 km;
* If you are feeling the steering is too heavy;
* Every two years of use, even if the mileage mentioned above has not been reached.

The hydraulic steering oil needs to be replaced so that, in light vehicles, those that we use on a daily basis for work or that are part of the fleets of different companies, the entire structure is properly lubricated. The parts that make up the power steering are as follows:

* Oil reservoir;
* Steering box;
* High pressure pipe;
* Low pressure piping;
* Rack and pinion steering.

All these components need up-to-date power steering oil to function properly.

Why is it necessary to change the power steering oil?

Keeping power steering oil in good condition makes the steering lighter and is necessary to maintain steering wheel rotation. Therefore, every 30,000 km driven or, depending on the vehicle model, every 50,000 km driven, it is necessary to change the fluid.

In addition to favoring the rotation of the steering wheel and making the power steering light and comfortable, the lubrication of the system components maintains good handling. When all parts are lubricated with power steering oil, the steering gear is smoother and more stable and the steering is much smoother, as expected by the driver.
Another function of power steering oil is to maintain the correct internal temperature so the power steering system components do not suffer from overheating. And it has one more advantage in knowing when to change the power steering oil, as you will save on parts, which do not wear out prematurely and, therefore, do not require recurrent component changes.

This type of oil is very important as it provides hydraulic assistance to the steering gear and helps control the temperature of the elements that make up the steering gear. It lasts far longer than engine oil. However, when expired, it can cause wear and breakage of some parts.

Which type of power steering oil is right for your car?

There are two types of power steering oil to choose from, synthetic and mineral. The two fluids are different, with the synthetic fluid having a greenish color, while the mineral fluid has a reddish appearance.

Here, a very important guideline must be made: the two types of power steering oil, mineral and synthetic, must never be mixed. Most cars manufactured in Brazil use mineral power steering oil, but so that there are no errors and possible complications resulting from an improper choice, the guideline is to check which type of fluid should be used in your vehicle. This information is available in the owner's manual.

If the hydraulic steering oil is inverted, the rubbers that are part of the structure are very worn. So, stay tuned when making the exchanges!
