Zoe
Hand washing timer
This device sits under a soap dispenser and visually indicates how long you should wash your hands for
This visual indication is interruptive enough to prompt people to wash their hands properly and for the correct length of time
Background
Health officials are stressing to the public that washing your hands properly is essential to preventing the spread of coronavirus.

You should wash your hands for 20 seconds, using lots of soap and friction in order to break down the virus and cover the full surface area of your hands. This recommendation is easy to forget. Even signage often doesn't work as your often overwhelmed with busy visual stimuli that they no longer grab your attention.

Zoe is different it subtly stands out by using light and motion
The mechanism is inspired from a spinning-top. By pushing down to dispense the soap, a coil is wound up which when released spins the top face creating a Zoetrope animation that lasts 20 seconds. An LED makes the animation even more noticeable, indicating how long you should be washing your hands for.
