Remember Your Descendants

Re/Member Your Descendants asks the question: if you were an ancestor, what would your descendants call upon you for? Through a series of interviews, it explores the legacy of today’s youth in South Africa.

Video interviews interact with illustrations, music and poetry on a digital layer and tell a new innovative South African folk tale through augmented reality. These young people interact with their own spirituality during the interviews and name themselves as ancestors.

Re/Member Your Descendants is then tasked with illustrating them as those ancestors and writing their stories. This project explores how new technologies can transform the way stories are told. Re/Member Your Descendants is a new frontier in multimedia collaborative storytelling, merging South African traditions with digital innovation.

Using the Augmented Reality App Artivive, the following artworks come alive and explore the ancestral realm into the digital layer.
The Script of Palm Prayer
The Enchanted Weave Dreamer
Muvhumbi (The Creator)
Seeing Yourself Outside of Yourself
Building a Home Outside of Yourself
Lineage of Inherited Joy
The Unveiled Confidence of Peace

Ancestor of Fruitful Creation
Dualistic World Creator
Capturer of Shape Shifting Shadows
On June 2021, through the support of Digital Lab Africa the project Remember Your Descendants Debut in Paris, France at the NewImages Festival, which is one of the leading annual Global XR Festivals.
