Sweet Valley Twins - Cover Redesign (Personal Project)
For a personal project, I redesigned one of my books from childhood in my style. This was my take on Sweet Valley High and the twins Elizabeth and Jessica Wakefield--with their beautiful blonde hair living life in Sweet Valley California. Here’s my version of book #47 Jessica’s New Look --which is about her wearing glasses and yes, Jessica they will know. Sigh, such is the life of dramatic twins. Such a fun middle-grade read regardless.
The Process
I started sketching out different layouts for the cover in Procreate. I knew I wanted to focus on the twins--especially Jessica. I decided to go with the bed layout and make it modern for today.
After picking a thumbnail, I revise the sketch and flesh it out. I wanted to bring in the twins more since they were the focus. I also wanted their expressions and personalities to shine.
Played around with outfits and colors--eventually settling on the final where I wanted to pull some of those pastel colors from the original cover. I edited Jessica's expression to be more frowny instead of sad. Did some minor edits and we have the final piece!
