Calma is a night bed stand lighting unit that is designed for university students to be placed in their bedroom. According to our research and our experience as university students ourselves, one of the main problems that students face is being stressed out and overwhelmed by the workload, especially when working late at night for a submission date or a test the next morning. Therefore, Calma is designed to give off a calm relaxing feeling for the students, to help them relax in their bedroom at night when they may be stressed out and overwhelmed. We tried to implement this through creating a calm relaxing shape and also through the lighting effect created by turning on the lighting unit.
Our lighting unit was inspired by the basketry work done by Mr. Islam at the GUC’s special needs center.
Therefore, the basketry is made out of bamboo sticks. The base is made out of concrete.
