Razer Orochi V2

Razer Orochi V2

Razer approached us with the task of introducing their new compact, ultra-lightweight gaming mouse - the Razer Orochi V2. Inspired by the Japanese myth of the eight-headed serpent, we conceptualized, designed, directed and animated the journey of this gaming mouse lasting through the seasons, set in various time periods of Japan, a mouse that can truly Outlast and Outplay.

Consideration for Utility
_____
Designed dedicated scenes for unique selling points of this gaming mouse. These scenes serve as great utility in Razer's main product page for the Orochi V2. An effective visual is one that people recognize, understand, relate to, and evoke the intended feelings from using the product.

Sakura petals for the dramatization of its lightweight, and jump cut through various environments to show its high portability (happens to loop surprisingly well!)

Process & Development

Timing is the essence of an impactful explosion.
"Slash! *crack* Boom!" That's what we envisioned for the rebirth of the gaming mouse.

In Maya, we mimicked as best as can this timing with crude geometry. It sure looks like a silly mockup on the left, but it served as a wonderful guide for final VFX.
“All good ideas start out as bad ideas, that's why it takes so long.”
– Steven Spielberg
Here's an early discussion sketch of the mythical creature. It's silly, but it sparked internal conversation on how to portray the serpent in a mystical way.

We're proud of the final execution, and even prouder of our open-mindedness to keep working on finding visual solutions to make it work. The shot came a long way, and we may not have got here without silly early explorations.
Go wild. For a while.
_____
We deep-dived into the concept, fabricated an entire backstory, of a powerful retired warrior who chose to self-seclude in the mountains, in his wooden cottage residence, which features his past battle armor, a Zen garden, and a bamboo forest backyard, where he seeks answers from the mythical serpent. And...well, that's not the point.

The point is, while none of this may have reflected directly in the film, it grounds and inspires our entire creative team at each and every step of our decision making.
