REVITALISATION OF THE VETTER MALT HOUSE IN LUBLIN

REVITALISATION OF THE VETTER MALT HOUSE IN LUBLIN (SŁODOWNIA VETTERÓW)
The complex of the former malt factory was part of the famous brewery of Karl Rudolf Vetter. In the second decade of the 20th century it was adapted for the cigarette factory of Mieczysław Górski.

The factory complex was built of brick and plastered. On a rectangular plan, three- and four-storeyed, covered with a gable roof. It is divided into two parts: eastern and western. A high tower with a chimney is added to the western section from the north.

Construction of the building in Misjonarska Street began around 1846.
In 1899, a storey was added above the malt warehouse and a drying room was built, with the external form of a tower, square in plan, topped with a tall cylindrical chimney.
Around 1915, the building ceased to fulfil its former role and was adapted by Mieczysław Górski into a cigarette factory. Measurement documentation of the main building from that time has survived. The factory was brought to an end by the crisis of the 1920s.
Since then, the building has lost its character of a large production plant.
In 1992 the city (as the owner) made efforts to sell it. Currently is abandoned, unused.
We propose to introduce a new museum function to the Vetter Malt House (Słodowni Vetterów). The building would be renamed LUBLIN MUSEUM OF INDUSTRY (LUBELSKIE MUZEUM PRZEMYSŁU), with exhibits related to the Lublin industry in various forms. Such as cartwheels, threshing machines, chaffing machines, winnowing machines and cast cast iron, Wilhelm Hess scales, furnaces, FS Lublin cars, etc.
